James Siebert

James Siebert was born in Santa Monica, California and became a full-time artist in 1965.  He moved to the beautiful coastal town of Santa Barbara in 1968.  After drawing and painting for several years, he started sculpting in stone, such as alabaster and marble.  In 1988, James Siebert began to create sculptures cast in clear resin, which provided an entirely new dimension to his works.

The shape is first carved in clay, which is then given a silicone mold. From this mold, an aluminum master sculpture is cast. This allows irregularities to be sanded smooth and polished. After this refinement, a second mold with a fiberglass jacket is set to receive the resin material. The final buffing and sanding process extends over several days as the resin hardens and sets.
The natural luminescence of the resin material gives the sculptures their unique beauty and softness, which complements the gently flowing lines of their designs. Each edition is signed and numbered by Siebert.
